KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Current completed their remarkable regular season on Sunday with a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Red Stars.

As the team wraps up the regular season and shifts their focus to the playoffs, their fans are confident in their ability to compete with any team in the league.

“Just knowing that they’re going to win when you go to the game,” expressed Mohamed Almaghrabi.

Having attended a Current regular season game this year, he is eagerly anticipating the playoffs. “I appreciate the fact that some tickets are reasonably priced. The other day, it was only $28 to attend a playoff game.”

The season kicked off with the opening of CPKC Stadium. “It was really nice, and I thought it was a cool addition to the city,” shared Hope Johnson.

“The excitement around the brand new stadium and female sports is incredible,” remarked Current fan Cynthia Wattree. “I’m thrilled to see Kansas City showing support for them.”

The success of the Current may pave the way for another professional sports team in Kansas City, as Patrick Mahomes recently expressed his willingness to welcome a WNBA team.

“We want to bring basketball to Kansas City as a whole, and the WNBA and their recent success make it a no-brainer to try and have a WNBA team here,” stated Current co-owner and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Fans of the Current showed their support for a WNBA team.

“I play basketball,” said Eliza Eblen. “So, I’m very passionate about basketball. My entire family is, and we have to leave the state to attend a basketball game.”

“We’re a sports town, and seeing the support and uplifting of women in sports is a great change for the city,” added Wattree.

Mahomes believes that the successful model used to support the Current can also be utilized to attract a WNBA team.

“The support they receive is evident, so let’s aim to bring a WNBA team here as well,” Mahomes emphasized.

Wattree believes that the addition of a new women’s sports team will elevate women’s sports even further in Kansas City. “It’s exciting to see that young girls can also see themselves out there and understand that the city values and believes in them.”
