Although Caitlin Clark has achieved numerous accolades on the court, her biggest impact on the WNBA was seen in the league’s viewership numbers, culminating in a record-breaking season.
ESPN’s broadcast of the Connecticut Sun’s victory over the Indiana Fever in Game 2 attracted an incredible 2.5 million viewers, making it the most-watched WNBA postseason game ever across ESPN platforms. According to Sports Media Watch, this game had the highest viewership outside of the WNBA Finals since 1999.
The viewership trend continued with the Minnesota Lynx’s win over the Phoenix Mercury drawing 1.22 million viewers on ESPN.
The WNBA’s viewership story for 2024 looks promising, as ESPN recently reported that the regular season games were the most-watched ever on ESPN Networks, averaging 1.2 million viewers. This is a significant increase from the previous year’s numbers. Additionally, there were seven games on ION this season that surpassed 1 million viewers.
