SVRA joins Lime Rock Park, Watkins Glen for Northeast Vintage Racing Palooza

Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) joins forces with Lime Rock Park (LRP), the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival and International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC) to offer a one-of-a-kind Northeast Vintage Racing Palooza this fall. Combining four events over a 10-day span, vintage racers from around the nation will gather in the northeast to take advantage of the fast, fun, competition and camaraderie hosted by the four organizations. 

Kicking off with the 43rd Annual Lime Rock Park Historic Festival at LRP, Aug. 29-Sept. 1, the celebration also includes the Mission Foods Watkins Glen SpeedTour at Watkins Glen International, Sept. 4-7, IMRRC’s Annual Cameron R. Argetsinger Award dinner on Sept. 4, and the Downtown Grand Prix Tribute Reenactment—part of the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Festival—on Sept. 5. Racers participating in both LRP’s Historic Festival and the Mission Foods Watkins Glen SpeedTour will receive a free test day entry at Watkins Glen International on Thursday, Sept. 4.

Celebrating its 43rd year, the Lime Rock Park Historic Festival launches into action over Labor Day Weekend with the Historic Festival Parade, a 17-mile tour through the area featuring 125 vintage race cars and sports cars. Friday, Saturday, and Monday showcase non-stop on-track competition, while Sunday brings the Lime Rock Concours, featuring world-class automobiles, and the Gathering of the Marques, where nearly 1,000 enthusiast vehicles and motorcycles line the scenic 1.5-mile circuit.

Entrants competing at both LRP and Watkins Glen will receive a free test day at The Glen on September 4, allowing the opportunity to enjoy some track time before heading to the Corning Museum of Glass for IMRRC’s 11th Annual Cameron R. Argetsinger Award dinner that evening. The dinner honors racing legend Brian Redman, who raced in nearly every category of sports car racing, including Formula 1, and notched victories everywhere from Daytona to Spa-Francorchamps in a career that spanned the globe. The dinner kicks off a full weekend of activities for Redman, which also includes serving as the Grand Marshal for SVRA’s Mission Foods Watkins Glen SpeedTour. 

With practice, qualifying, sprint races and enduros, vintage racers will take on the twists and turns of Watkins Glen International for three days of on-track action during the Mission Foods Watkins Glen SpeedTour. Featuring MG and Air-Cooled Porsches, the one-of-a-kind event once again coincides with the annual Grand Prix Festival and downtown reenactment, which takes participants on a drive through history as they navigate the 6.6-mile original Grand Prix street course to the cheers of 20,000 spectators lining the circuit.
