In my career, I’ve always stood for the truth in boxing issues, regardless of popular opinion. This has often led to backlash from fans and critics alike. I’ve received praise and then faced harsh criticism from the same people who once admired my work. This has become a recurring theme throughout my writing career.
When I first entered the boxing writing scene, I was labeled a “Floyd Mayweather guy” due to my initial support for him against biased media criticism. However, as I started critiquing certain aspects of Mayweather’s career, his loyal fans turned against me. This trend has continued with other boxers and their supporters.
For me, there are no sacred cows when it comes to my work. Now, shifting focus to Gervonta “Tank” Davis, I must admit that I was disappointed by the news of his upcoming fight against Lamont Roach on December 14.
I am a fan of Davis and admire his fighting style. However, Roach’s record and lack of star presence make him an underwhelming opponent for someone like Davis, who is considered a top face in American boxing. Fans expect to see Davis facing off against other big names in the sport.
While some may argue that Davis is entitled to this fight, I believe that top stars like him should be facing more formidable opponents on pay-per-view events. Fans deserve better matchups and showcases for Davis’s unique talent.
