We’ll be providing daily updates from the 12th Annual Tarkanian Classic, which will end on Dec. 21 with the championship game in nine divisions, including the Platinum Division at 7:30 pm (ET) at Bishop Gorman. The event began with various prep division showcase games between Dec. 15-17.
Brayden Miner: Redondo’s Unsung Hero
The first team to move on to the Platinum Division semifinals was Redondo Union (Redondo Beach, Calif.), as the Sea Hawks defeated a tough Coronado (Henderson, Nev.) team, 87-82 on Thursday afternoon. Coronado held the lead for less than a minute throughout the game, but they gained momentum with less than two minutes left, taking an 81-79 lead, their first lead since the first quarter.
At an early point in the shot clock during the next possession, 6-foot-2 Brayden Miner sank a smooth 3-pointer for the Sea Hawks, putting them ahead 82-81, and they never fell behind again. Miner made all three of his 3-point attempts and ended with 11 points, shooting perfectly from the field. Miner has been a significant contributor to Redondo’s success as the team’s sixth man, providing timely shots, solid defense, and a composed approach to the game.
Miner’s father is Harold Miner, a two-time NBA slam dunk champion and a California playground legend from Inglewood (Calif.). “Baby Jordan” has been out of the limelight since retiring from the NBA and intentionally keeps a low profile. His son, a late-blooming senior, just needs a bit more consistency in his offensive game to elevate his performance. Miner is only scratching the surface of his potential and will make some colleges regret not pursuing him more aggressively.
