Reims, France – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association “ITA” is pleased to share the six collegiate selections, confirmed today by Team Australia coaches, who will represent Team Australia at the 2024 Master’U BNP Paribas Championship in Reims, France.
These six collegiate selections include Maya Joint (Texas), Petra Hule (Florida State), Lily Fairclough (USC), Casey Hoole (South Carolina), Jeremy Jin (Florida), and Derek Pham (Oklahoma State).
Known as “The World Event of University Tennis,” the Master’U BNP Paribas Championship is in its 17th year. The tournament will once again welcome eight nations for several days of high-level competition between many of the top-ranked student-athletes from both NCAA institutions and other university systems around the world. The 2024 edition will be played from November 29 – December 1 in Reims, France at an indoor facility in the city.
When asked about his feelings towards the event, Casey Hoole, the sole returning Team Australia member, stated “Being given the opportunity to represent Australia is such a great honor. There is nothing like team tennis and the environment and energy that comes with it. I can’t wait to get over there and bring that team spirit and energy at an international stage. Master’U is truly a special event.”
Last year’s team Australia Master’U Championship selections included Enzo Aguiard (Alabama), Catherine Aulia (Tennessee), Casey Hoole (South Carolina), Grace Schumacher (South Florida), Amy Stevens (Vanderbilt), Edward Winter (Pepperdine). The team, made it to the semifinals, before falling to Great Britain in a close 3-4 contest.
Maya Joint, a freshman at Texas and newcomer to Team Australia, expressed similar feelings of excitement stating, “I’m so excited to play for Australia in the Master’U BNP Paribas event. It will be my first time officially wearing the green and gold which means the world to me. This year has been an amazing transition from junior to college tennis and I have gained so much experience, great friends, and memories.”
Lily Fairclough, who will also be representing Australia for the first time commented similarly, “Being selected for this team really means a lot to me. It’s a huge honor to get to wear the green and gold for the first time, I couldn’t be more excited to compete hard alongside this team. It has been a goal of mine for a long time, so I’m excited to make the most of this opportunity.”
Coaching Team Australia this year will be Chris Mahony (Tennessee), Head of National Tennis Academy at Tennis Australia, and David Hodge (Baylor, Colorado, Stanford), Director of Athletes Agency International.
