Team USA is gearing up for a challenging match against Belgium in today’s Olympic basketball game, a team they narrowly beat less than six months ago.
Despite Team USA’s Olympic dominance, Belgium is relatively new to the Summer Games, with Paris being just their second appearance after finishing seventh in Tokyo. This will be their first time facing the USA, who are going for their eighth consecutive gold medal on the Olympic stage.
Team USA hopes to rewrite Olympic qualifier rematch
During the Olympic qualifiers in February, Team USA managed to pull off a close 81-79 victory against Belgium, with Breanna Stewart hitting a buzzer-beater shot. Belgium, the 2023 EuroBasket champions, posed a tough challenge for the US, hitting 12 three-pointers while Team USA struggled with their shooting. Both teams were missing key players during that game.
Full rosters favor a USA victory
Team USA remains the strong favorite against Belgium, even with both teams at full strength. Belgium will rely on their WNBA veterans to challenge the US, but Team USA is predicted to come out on top.
“It’s going to be a great game,” Team USA’s Napheesa Collier commented on the upcoming match. “They’re a really good team. So I think it’s going to be a battle.”
