Teofimo Lopez Considering a Move to Welterweight Division
Teofimo Lopez hinted at a potential move to the 147-pound division during an interview with ESPN’s Mark Kriegel, as reported by BoxingScene.com.
“147 is something that I plan on moving toward, probably even in this next upcoming match,” Lopez shared with Kriegel during the interview.
When asked about a possible fight with Brian Norman Jr., Lopez expressed interest in becoming a three-division world champion at a young age, stating, “I believe what really sounds swell is ‘Teofimo Lopez, three-division world champion at 27 years young.’ I’m all about that.”
In a separate interview with BoxingScene, Norman Jr. mentioned that he would welcome a fight with Lopez if he decides to move up to the welterweight division, adding, “If [Lopez] wants to come to 147, I will gladly introduce him to the division. Anything is possible. We have seen what he did in the past, trying to be great at a young age. … It could happen, but business is still business. Maybe it won’t happen.”
Ultimately, whether or not the fight materializes will depend on Lopez’s goals. While he may aim for title unification at junior welterweight first, Lopez has expressed confidence in maintaining his punching power at 147 pounds.
