The GIST: Last night’s bracket reveal was filled with excitement, showcasing both new and experienced dancers and setting the stage for the start of March Madness this week.
How it works: As we mentioned in yesterday’s Scroll, the women’s and men’s fields consist of 68 teams each, with 32 automatic qualifiers from conference tournaments and 36 at-large bids chosen by a selection committee.
After being seeded from 1 to 16, teams are placed in four regions where they will compete in single-elimination games over the next few weeks. Both tournaments will kick off with the First Four games in the next 48 hours, where four teams will battle for spots in the official bracket.
The top seeds: South Carolina claimed the top seed in the women’s bracket after an undefeated regular season. Other No. 1 seeds include Iowa, USC, and Texas. In the men’s bracket, UConn leads as the defending champions, followed by Houston, Purdue, and UNC.
