LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The world champion Las Vegas Aces will take to the Las Vegas Strip on Friday to celebrate their third WNBA championship.
The Aces clinched their third championship in four seasons. The team’s legendary center A’ja Wilson scored 31 points in the season finale, capping off a four-game sweep of the Phoenix Mercury.
Wilson, the league’s MVP, WNBA Finals MVP, and scoring title winner, was also the co-winner of the WNBA’s defensive player of the year honor. Speaking to the Associated Press, said her achievements being compared to those of Michael Jordan was powerful.
“I still have a little more winning to do before you put me in the conversation with him, but when you’re compared to greats, when you’re compared to legends, that means you’re doing something right, and I am so grateful,” Wilson said.
The championship celebration is set to travel south on Tropicana Avenue, to Park Avenue, and take a left turn into a rally in Toshiba Plaza, where Aces stars will walk a red carpet to the stage. Performances from artists Ludacris, Mýa, and Crime Mob are scheduled for the event.
Live coverage of the parade starts at 5 p.m. on fox5vegas.com. It will extend to 7:30 p.m. as fans line Las Vegas Boulevard, eventually filing into Toshiba Plaza near T-Mobile Arena to rally for the WNBA Champions.
