The GIST: The men’s first major of the year is over, and now it’s the women’s turn to shine at The Chevron Championship, the first of five women’s majors. The tournament will be held at The Club at Carlton Woods in Texas starting tomorrow morning.
The purse: This year, the prize pool is an impressive $7.9M, an increase of $4.8M from the last three years, thanks to Chevron’s sponsorship. Even golfers who miss the cut will receive $10K, the highest missed-cut stipend on the tour.
Players to watch: The spotlight will be on American and world No. 1 Nelly Korda. After winning the Drive On Championship in January, Korda took a break before winning the last four events. Defending champion and fellow American world No. 2 Lilia Vu, who will be playing alongside Korda, has not won an event this season. Vu, a two-time major winner last year, has the ability to perform well when it counts the most.
