The main point: Despite conspiracy theories, the No. 3 Kansas City Chiefs and No. 1 San Francisco 49ers will compete in the Super Bowl after winning their respective AFC and NFC championship games yesterday. What happens in Vegas…
AFC — Kansas City Chiefs defeat Baltimore Ravens 17–10: Defending champions Kansas City will play for the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the fourth time in the last five years by defeating the favorite, the No. 1 Baltimore Ravens.
NFC — San Francisco 49ers come back to beat the Detroit Lions 34–31: Down by 17 points at halftime, the 49ers made a historic comeback in just eight minutes to equalize the game and end the underdog run of the Lions.
Niners quarterback Brock “Mr. Irrelevant” Purdy was once again impressive, leading the comeback with both his throwing and running skills. Impressive.
Early Super Bowl preview: KC and SF did not face each other in the regular season, but they will rematch from Super Bowl LIV, where KC emerged victorious with a 31–20 win after a 21-point fourth quarter. While the 49ers are making their second Super Bowl appearance in five years, Patrick Mahomes and KC have more experience on their side.
Will KC repeat as champions like the 2003–04 New England Patriots? Or will SF start a new dynasty and win the Lombardi Trophy for the first time since 1994? All will be revealed on February 11th.
