The Last Three Fights of Joe Joyce Before Derek Chisora
Kash Ali
On the undercard of the first
Nathan Heaney-Brad Pauls
fight, Joyce took on fellow British heavyweight Kash Ali (21-3, 12 KOs). The
“
Juggernaut
”
was dominant from the opening bell, soon showing that Ali was no match for him. With under 30 seconds remaining in the tenth round,
Joyce landed a right hand
that sent his opponent down. Ali
was unable to
beat the
referee’s
count, giving Joyce the victory via tenth-round knockout.
Zhilei Zhang II
Joyce and Zhilei Zhang
(27-2-1, 22 KOs) fought for the second time at Wembley Arena in September last year. Both men came into the fight weighing over 280 lbs. Zhang was able to hurt Joyce early in the contest. With only seconds remaining in round three,
“
Big Bang
”
landed
a right hand to the head
, sending Joyce down. While the Brit did get up, he was not up in time to beat the count of the referee. As a result, Zhang won their rematch by third-round knockout.
Zhilei Zhang I
Zhang found his target early in the first meeting
between the pair and it was the right eye of Joyce that was repeatedly getting hit. The
“
Juggernaut
”
went into this fight aiming to maintain his standing with the WBO and get an eventual world title shot, but Zhang had other plans.
Joyce’s
lack of head movement meant he got repeatedly tagged. Halfway through round six, a doctor looked at
Joyce’s
eye before speaking with the referee, who ended proceedings.
