The GIST: Tomorrow, the best golfers in the world will begin play in Naples, Florida at the final LPGA event of the year, the CME Group Tour Championship. With a record-breaking first-place prize of $4M, the grass is definitely greener on this side.
How it works: Similar to the PGA Tour Championship, players earned points based on their finishes at 33 Tour events. The objective was to accumulate enough points to rank among the top 60 LPGA golfers and secure a spot at the Championship. With a fresh start for the four-round season finale, the stakes are incredibly high.
The playing field: The 60-player field is packed with top talent including world No. 1 Nelly Korda, who racked up an impressive seven wins in 2024, and two-time winner of the finale world No. 9 Jin Young Ko. Additionally, anticipate world No. 4 Lydia Ko, a three-time event champion, to continue her strong performance after claiming gold at the recent Paris Olympics.
While four Tour rookies will be making their Championship debuts, veteran Lexi Thompson is expected to compete in her final edition after announcing her retirement from full-time competition earlier this year.
