The Witcher 3 originally featured a scene where Geralt visited Cyberpunk 2077’s Night City

CD Projekt initially had plans for The Witcher 3 to briefly visit Night City from Cyberpunk 2077, years before the latter was released.

Although the idea had been discussed by the developer, a recent datamining project uncovered a work-in-progress script for the scene. This scene would have showcased Geralt and Avallac’h arriving in CD Projekt’s futuristic setting, only to be unimpressed by what they discovered.

This moment was intended to be a part of The Witcher 3’s Through Time and Space questline, serving as an Easter egg for fans curious about the developer’s upcoming projects.

Discovered by What Lies Unseen and highlighted by PC Gamer, the script for the sequence from around 2012, three years before the final release of The Witcher 3, would have been as follows:

Geralt: What… What is this place? Is this the afterlife?
Avallac’h: No. Just another of the realities the Spiral leads through… Technologically advanced, but broken. Dying.
Geralt: Disgusting. This stench, noise… How can you live here?!
Avallac’h: You should know better. This world is inhabited by humans, not elves.

Additional insights from What Lies Unseen suggest that CD Projekt also intended for Geralt to give a coin to a beggar who would later appear in Cyberpunk 2077, now wealthy from the Novigrad gold.

Ultimately, the Through Time and Space questline remained in The Witcher 3 with different sequences, including Geralt traveling through the Ddiddiwedht Desert, a poisoned valley, an underwater section, and an icy tundra. Less thrilling than the proposed Night City visit.

With the release of Cyberpunk 2077, the idea of a crossover might now be more feasible for The Witcher 4. CD Projekt has confirmed that their next project has entered “full production,” with Eurogamer detailing the technical aspirations and timelines for it.
