GAMBIER, Ohio — After celebrating Senior Day prior to Saturday’s home game, the Kenyon College women’s basketball team struggled to overcome their frontcourt size disadvantage, as the DePauw University Tigers controlled play down low and came away with a 72-43 North Coast Athletic Conference victory.

DePauw (14-9, 7-5 NCAC), outscored Kenyon in the paint, 46-20, and also outrebounded Kenyon, 50-32, leading to 19 second-half chance points for the Tigers, winners of three straight.Kenyon (6-17, 1-11 NCAC), looking to snap out of a losing skid, instead dropped its sixth straight. The Owls have just two games left in the season, with a road game at The College of Wooster on Wednesday and then another road game at Oberlin College on Saturday.Four of the five Kenyon seniors got the start against the Tigers. That group included Anissa Hardy, Alyssa Gest, Grace Murphy, and Alexis Newman. The fifth senior, Mikayla Rudolph, has been unable to play this season.Hardy led the way for the Kenyon seniors, scoring eight points and grabbing four rebounds. Gest scored three points and also snared four rebounds. Murphy had a pair of rebounds and Newman chalked up a couple of steals.Kenyon’s leading scorer was sophomore Kiana Mollabashy, who came off the bench to pump in 11 points. First-year Rae Oberster logged a team-high five rebounds. With DePauw dominating the paint, Kenyon looked to the long ball to catch up, but the Owls were only able to convert 4-of-25 (16.0 percent) three-point attempts.DePauw got off to a good start, constructing a 16-9 lead after one quarter. Kenyon, however, ran with the Tigers in the second quarter and were only outscored by two points, leaving the halftime score at 32-23 in favor of DePauw. The Tigers then cranked up the offense in the third quarter, scoring 26 points while shooting 12-of-17 (70.6 percent). That surge left Kenyon in a 25-point hole heading in the final quarter of play.DePauw, led by Olivia Hart, expanded its lead to as many as 31 points before settling on the final 29-point difference. Hart racked up 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead all players on the court. Riley Mont added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Lily Huntzinger contributed 15 more points to the Tigers’ score.
