LAS VEGAS — Super welterweight fighter Tim Tszyu predicts that Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will have an easy victory over Edgar Berlanga when the popular Mexican boxer steps back into the ring on September 14 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo will defend his WBC and WBO super middleweight world championship titles on a Premier Boxing Champions on Prime Video PPV card during Mexican Independence Day weekend.
Tszyu, along with other athletes, musicians, and celebrities, will be in attendance for one of boxing’s most glamorous weekends of the year.
Despite attending the event, Tszyu will remain focused on his upcoming fight and will not be indulging in any alcohol.
In a recent interview with World Boxing News, Tszyu confirmed that he will be headlining his own PBC event on October 19, where he will challenge Bakhram Murtazaliev for the IBF championship at 154 pounds in Orlando, Florida.
Before his own fight, Tszyu will be present at the Canelo vs Berlanga event and will provide on-air commentary for Prime Video regarding his upcoming match.
Predicting an easy knockout win for Alvarez, Tszyu stated, “Canelo stops him easily,” citing Berlanga’s susceptibility to being knocked down, as seen in a video where Erickson Lubin, a 154-pounder, managed to drop him.
The upcoming PBC event on September 14 will also feature fights between Erislandy Lara and Danny Garcia, Rolando Romero, Caleb Plant, and Stephen Fulton.
Tszyu’s fight against Murtazaliev will headline another PBC event next month, which will be available on regular Prime Video rather than pay-per-view.
As of now, it is uncertain who else will be participating in the Tszyu vs Murtazaliev event.
Previous reports suggest that Tszyu is aiming for a quick return to the ring after his October championship bout, with hopes of fighting someone like Lubin in December and seeking a rematch with Sebastian Fundora in early 2025.
