Recently, Max Verstappen flew to Sardinia, only to return later to his residence in Monaco. Toto Wolff happened to be there as well, on his own yacht, which kicked the F1 rumour mill into high gear. Now, new data has surfaced regarding the actual proximity both vessles were in with respects to each other.
Since Christian Horner’s departure as team principal of Red Bull Racing, rumours about Verstappen making a potential switch over to Mercedes have rekindled. It is not yet known what is the cards for the Dutchman, the Austrian and the German teams, but recent activity certainly is enough to pique anyone’s interest.
Verstappen made a quick trip to Sardinia, Italy where his yacht was docked. Meanwhile, Mercedes team boss and CEO Wolff was also present in the same harbor with his own yacht. Coincidence? Here’s what we know so far.
Verstappen and Wolff temporary neighbours in Sardinia
It appears that the Red Bull driver and the Mercedes team boss were docked very closely in the Sardinia harbor. Moreover, it turns out in the ship’s registry that the couple were neighbours, albeit if temporarily so! It’s still speculation, but the idea that the two did not run into each other being so close together? It seems unlikely.
Wolff’s boat may be somewhat larger, but the images below show that they – whether by coincidence or not – were together in the harbor. Verstappen returned back to Monaco shortly afterward, which begs the question: Why go all the way to Sardinia to make a quick pitstop?
