The women’s league has never been more popular.

Or more talented.

The WNBA has the greatest female hoopers on the planet competing against one another on a nightly basis.

From the likes of Diana Taurasi, Tamika Catchings, Maya Moore, Sheryl Swoopes, and Sue Bird, to the next generation of stars in A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, and Caitlin Clark, the list of talented players who have graced the WNBA can go on and on.

Without further ado, here are talkSPORT’s top ten WNBA players heading into the 2025 season, which tips off on May 16…

TOP 10 WNBA PLAYERS FOR 2024-25 SEASON

10. Nneka Ogwumike – Seattle Storm

Accomplishments: WNBA champion (2016), WNBA MVP (2016), WNBA Rookie of the Year, WNBA All-Rookie Team, 9x WNBA All-Star, All-WNBA First Team, 6x All-WNBA Second Team, 4x WNBA All-Defensive First Team, 3x WNBA All-Defensive Second Team, 3x Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award, WNBA 25th Anniversary Team

Ogwumike has accomplished almost everything there is to accomplish in the WNBA as she heads into her 14th season as a pro.

She earned All-WNBA Second Team in her first season as a member of the Storm, after spending her first 12 years with the Los Angeles Sparks.

Ogwumike averaged 16.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.9 steals per game last year.

The 34-year-old will look to be a mentor to the Storm’s number two overall pick, Dominique Malonga.

9. Arike Ogunbowale – Dallas Wings

Accomplishments: 4x WNBA All-Star, 2x WNBA All-Star Game MVP, All-WNBA First Team, 2x All-WNBA Second Team, WNBA All-Rookie Team

The Wings struggled last year to a 9-31 record, but it wasn’t because of Ogunbowale.

The four-time All-Star averaged 22.2 points, 5.1 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game.

Ogunbowale will have a new running mate by her side, the top overall pick of this year’s draft, Paige Bueckers, which should give Dallas a dangerous 1–2 scoring combo.

8. Jackie Young – Las Vegas Aces

Accomplishments: 2x WNBA champion (2022, 2023), WNBA Most Improved Player, 3x WNBA All-Star, All-WNBA Second Team, WNBA All-Rookie Team

Young’s stock has been trending sky-high in recent seasons, as she has continued to improve every year.

The 27-year-old averaged 15.8 points, 5.3 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.0 steal per game last season, as she helped the Aces reach the semifinals.

With the blockbuster addition of Jewell Lloyd, look for Young to flourish even more, and for the Aces to return to the Finals.

7. Jonquel Jones – New York Liberty

Accomplishments: WNBA champion (2024), WNBA Finals MVP (2024), WNBA MVP (2021), 5x WNBA All-Star, All-WNBA First Team, 4x All-WNBA Second Team, WNBA Most Improved Player Award, WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year

There may not be a more red-hot player heading into the 2025 season than Jones, judging by the way she capped off 2024.

Jones helped lead the Liberty to their first-ever championship and took home Finals MVP honors in the process.

The 31-year-old star averaged 14.2 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.

6. Sabrina Ionescu- New York Liberty

Accomplishments: WNBA champion (2024), 3x WNBA All-Star, 3x All-WNBA Second Team

One of the game’s most lethal shooters, Ionescu (along with Jones and one soon-to-be-named player) is set to defend their title in the 2025 season.

Entering her fifth year, Ionescu is without question one of the top guards in the league.

Last year she averaged 18.2 points, 6.2 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game, and finished sixth in MVP voting.

Look for the sharpshooter to take an even bigger leap this year.

5. Caitlin Clark – Indiana Fever

Accomplishments: WNBA All-Star, All-WNBA First Team, WNBA Rookie of the Year, WNBA All-Rookie Team

Clark is already the biggest draw of the sport and the league’s biggest star.

That doesn’t make her the most talented (yet), but it won’t be too long before she takes that distinction as well.

As a rookie last season, she led the league in assists and earned All-WNBA First Team honors.

Clark averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists and 5.7 rebounds in her first year in the league.

The sky is quite literally the limit for No. 22 in Indiana, and even that may not be high enough.

Clark arrived last year; now she’s looking to take over.

4. Alyssa Thomas – Phoenix Mercury

Accomplishments: 5x WNBA All-Star, 2x All-WNBA First Team, All-WNBA Second Team, WNBA All-Rookie Team, 2x WNBA All-Defensive First Team, 4x WNBA All-Defensive Second Team

Thomas will be entering her first year with the Phoenix Mercury, after having spent the first 11 years of her career with the Connecticut Sun.

In her final year with the Sun, Thomas averaged 10.6 points, 8.4 rebounds, 7.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.

And while those numbers may not jump off the screen like her peers’, Thomas does everything you would want in a superstar.

Her leadership, defensive abilities, rebounding, dishing the rock, intangibles, Thomas is one of the most well-rounded players in the entire league.

3. Napheesa Collier – Minnesota Lynx

Accomplishments: 4x WNBA All-Star, 2x All-WNBA First Team, All-WNBA Second Team, WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, WNBA All-Defensive First Team, 2× WNBA All-Defensive Second Team, WNBA Rookie of the Year

Collier is coming off a year in which she took home Defensive Player of the Year honors and led the Lynx to the WNBA Finals.

She is as good as it gets, averaging 20.4 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.9 steals per game last season.

The 28-year-old is in the midst of her prime and still has room to improve which might be hard to believe.

Collier has the Lynx poised to make another run at the title.

2. Breanna Stewart – New York Liberty

Accomplishments: 3x WNBA champion (2018, 2020, 2024), 2x WNBA Finals MVP (2018, 2020), 2x WNBA MVP (2018, 2023), 6x WNBA All-Star, 6x All-WNBA First Team, All-WNBA Second Team, 3x WNBA All-Defensive First Team, 3x WNBA All-Defensive Second Team, WNBA Rookie of the Year, WNBA All-Rookie Team, WNBA 25th Anniversary Team

Arguably the face of women’s basketball, not just the WNBA, but the entire sport for the last decade.

Stewart has accomplished everything in the sport, multiple times.

Championships, MVPs, you name it, and Stewart has done it.

And done it in a dominating fashion.

She averaged 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game last season, and is fresh off her third WNBA championship.

If it wasn’t for a certain someone in front of her, Stewart would easily clock in as the best player in the league.

1. A’ja Wilson – Las Vegas Aces

Accomplishments: 2x WNBA champion (2022, 2023), WNBA Finals MVP (2023), 3x WNBA MVP (2020, 2022, 2024), 2x WNBA Defensive Player of the Year, 6x WNBA All-Star, 4x All-WNBA First Team, All-WNBA Second Team, 3x WNBA All-Defensive First Team, WNBA All-Defensive Second Team, WNBA All-Rookie Team, WNBA Rookie of the Year

There is not a single female basketball player in the world better than Wilson is right now.

Her last few seasons in the league have been just as good of a stretch as any, in the entire history of the league.

Last year the Aces star took home her third regular-season MVP, averaging 26.9 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.6 blocks, 2.3 assists, and 1.8 steals.

There’s Wilson, and then there’s everyone else.

As always, a new season presents new opportunities for new faces to arrive, for old faces to slip, players to come out of nowhere and excel.

As unpredictable as any given season can be, look for these ten to be up there in just about every statistical category, every highlight, every big moment, as they look to be the last ones standings in pursuit of a championship.
