Two of the nation’s top NCAA basketball teams will face their first losses of the 2024/25 season this weekend, with intense college matchups testing four championship contenders.
First, No. 6 Notre Dame will play against No. 3 USC on Saturday, followed by No. 1 South Carolina taking on crosstown rival No. 5 UCLA on Sunday.
Saturday’s NCAA showdown highlights superstar sophomores
The focus will be on sophomore guards JuJu Watkins and Hannah Hidalgo as Notre Dame takes on their first ranked opponent this season on Saturday.
Watkins became the fastest Trojan to reach 1,000 career points last week, surpassing the record set by legend Cheryl Miller. Hidalgo is averaging 25 points per game, ranking fifth in the country.
Olivia Miles, another strong player for Notre Dame, has returned from injury and is making an impact on the team’s performance.
USC has also been performing well, led by Watkins and All-American forward Kiki Iriafen. They will face a tough challenge against Notre Dame on Saturday.
Sunday’s game features powerhouse players in the paint
The matchup between UCLA and South Carolina on Sunday will highlight the performance of star players in the paint.
Chloe Kitts leads South Carolina in scoring and rebounding, while Lauren Betts has been dominant for UCLA.
Both teams have had strong starts to the season, but will face a tough test on Sunday.
