The Connecticut Sun earned a significant victory on Tuesday, defeating the LA Sparks 69-61 at TD Garden in front of a sold-out crowd. This game was a historic event as it was the first WNBA game ever held at the Boston Celtics’ home.
Boston shows out to support New England’s WNBA team
The Sun currently represent New England as the only WNBA team in the region. The crowd of 19,156 at TD Garden marked the largest attendance in Connecticut Sun history and the third-highest in the WNBA this season.
Fans witnessed an intense battle as the Sun made a comeback in the fourth quarter, led by DiJonai Carrington. This victory marked the Sun’s 20th win, making them the second WNBA team to reach this milestone in the season.
“Hopefully, this is the start of something beautiful,” Sun’s Alyssa Thomas expressed after the game. “This is the kind of atmosphere you want to play in.”
Lack of WNBA promotion causes stir ahead of untelevised Boston game
Despite the sellout crowd, the game was not nationally broadcast, with only WNBA League Pass and X platform providing live coverage.
“I think that there could have been a lot more publicity or promo from the top,” Carrington remarked regarding the lack of promotion for the game that was announced almost a year ago.
