WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Dallas Wings rookies Aziaha James (Princess Anne) and JJ Quinerly (Lake Taylor) had solid performances in their preseason WNBA debuts.
James finished with 10 points, three assists, a rebound and a steal in a 112-78 loss to the Las Vegas Aces. Quinerly had 16 points, two rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Tabitha Amanze, a 6-4 center from Nigeria who played the previous three seasons at Princeton, has joined UVA’s program. She averaged six points and four rebounds per game while shooting 52.8% from the field last season.

Ex-NSU star Myers chooses Hawaii
Former Norfolk State forward Jalen Myers has committed to Hawaii, according to The Portal Report. The 6-8 Huntsville, Alabama, native averaged 10.5 points and 5.4 rebounds a game for the Spartans last season.

CNU rolls into C2C title match
Raine Weis and Kylie Schaefer recorded victories at Nos. 1 and 2 singles and No. 1 doubles to lead No. 1 seed Christopher Newport to a 4-0 victory over No. 4 Salisbury in a semifinal of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference women’s tennis tournament on Saturday in Newport News.
The Captains advance to today’s 10 a.m. championship match against No. 2 seed UC Santa Cruz.
W&L blanks VWU in ODAC semis
Lauren Long, Allie Murrell and Sarah Donnelly each posted singles and doubles victories as No. 1 seed Washington and Lee blanked Virginia Wesleyan 4-0 in a semifinal of the ODAC women’s tennis tournament on Saturday.
The Marlins, who finished the season at 10-9, reached the semifinals round for the first time since 2021.

Captains advance to C2C final
Vincent Truong and Ashton Legum each notched singles and doubles victories to lead No. 2 seed Christopher Newport to a 4-2 victory over No. 3 seed Salisbury in the Coast-to-Coast Tournament semifinals Saturday in Newport News.
The Captains (12-8) will host Mary Washington in the final at 2 p.m. today.
Virginia 4, Bucknell 0: Mans Dahlberg and Jangjun Kim each earned singles and doubles victories to lead the Cavaliers (21-7) to a first-round NCAA Tournament victory. UVA will host Princeton at 1 p.m. Sunday in the second round.

CNU duo thrive at C2C meet
Christopher Newport earned the top two individual women’s honors, but UC Santa Cruz won the men’s and women’s team competitions in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Newport News.
The Captains’ Ellie Nuckols was the Women’s Track Athlete of the Meet and teammate Katie Stevens was the Field Athlete of the Meet. Nuckols won the 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles, was second in the long jump and third in the 400. Stevens won the shot put, discus and hammer throw.

CNU falls in C2C title game
Julianna Ott and Regan McDonnell scored three goals each to lead top seed and No. 7 Salisbury to a 13-9 victory over No. 2 seed Christopher Newport in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference championship on Saturday in Maryland. Maelyn Eversole collected four goals and an assist for the Captains (8-11).
James Madison 18, South Florida 9: Maddie Epke scored six goals to lead the Dukes to their first American Athletic Conference championship with a victory at Old Dominion’s L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

CNU outlasts Salisbury in 13th
Jamie Martin allowed three unearned runs in 13 innings to pick up her 15th victory as No. 3 Christopher Newport edged No. 8 Salisbury 4-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday in Maryland.
Brooke Greaver hit an RBI single to account for the go-ahead run in the top of the 13th. She finished with two RBIs.
UNC Wilmington 9, Hampton 8: Allison Corbin hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift UNC Wilmington to a victory over Hampton on Saturday in North Carolina. Leah Maduro went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs for the Pirates (15-34, 5-22 CAA).
