During Sunday’s slate of WNBA games, two former South Carolina basketball stars dominated.
A’ja Wilson, playing for the Las Vegas Aces, set a couple of all-time WNBA records against the Washington Mystics with a stellar performance.
Wilson posted a remarkable stat line of 28 points and 17 rebounds while shooting over 60% from the field in the road victory against Washington. This marked her 5th consecutive double-double and the first time in WNBA history for a player to achieve three 20-point, 15-rebound games in a row. Wilson also made history by averaging 25 points and 15 rebounds over a 5-game span.
Aliyah Boston, another former Gamecock standout, shined in a road win over the Minnesota Lynx with a new career-high of 16 rebounds and 17 points on 8-11 shooting. Boston’s performance included at least 17 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and 58% shooting from the field for the second consecutive game.
Boston also made history by becoming just the second WNBA player to achieve 15 points, 15 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 70% shooting in a single game.
Both Boston and Wilson have earned spots in the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game. Wilson will represent Team USA, while Boston, along with Allisha Gray, will be part of Team WNBA. The All-Star Game is scheduled for Saturday, July 20th.
