Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton wasn’t shying away from his scoreless performance against the New York Knicks on Friday. Instead, Haliburton pledged to enhance his shooting and overall game.
“We simply missed a lot of shots, and it begins with me,” Haliburton stated. “I’m not worried. The good thing is we don’t have a game tomorrow. I will hit the gym and work on my shot. We all will practice and be prepared for Sunday’s game against Philadelphia. … I will put up a lot of shots tomorrow. I will put up a lot of shots on Sunday and I will be ready for the game.”
So far this season, Haliburton has only made 1 of 16 attempts from behind the arc. This contributes to his 6-of-26 shooting from the field as an All-Star guard.
Despite leading the league in assists last season with 10.9 per game, Haliburton has only managed a total of nine assists in the Pacers’ first two games this season. This prompted the All-NBA player to admit his subpar performance in the loss to New York.
“No, definitely not,” Haliburton replied when asked if he believed he played well other than his shooting. “I just had a bad game. It happens. I need to improve defensively. I thought I was decent in my rotations but I need to rebound better, take care of the ball better, and maintain our offensive flow.”
