Huskies guard Paige Bueckers continues to climb UConn’s all-time scoring list.
Entering Wednesday’s road game against Seton Hall, Bueckers needed 14 points to move into ninth in program history in scoring, ahead of Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi (2,156). Bueckers eclipsed Taurasi’s mark when she hit a pull-up jump shot at the beginning of the third quarter.
Bueckers finished with 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting in 27 minutes, leading the Huskies to a 91-49 victory. It’s the 13th time she has scored 20 points or more this season.
The No. 5 Huskies are now 25-3 and have three regular-season games remaining before the Big East Tournament, scheduled for March 7-10 in Uncasville, Connecticut.
In January, Bueckers became the fastest player in program history to reach 2,000 points (102 games), breaking Maya Moore’s record (108 games). Moore, of course, is the program’s all-time leading scorer (3,036 points).
While Bueckers is a prolific scorer, she probably won’t have time to break Moore’s record, as she’s expected to enter the 2025 WNBA Draft. In Tankathon’s latest mock draft, the Dallas Wings take her with the No. 1 pick.
Former UConn stars, including Taurasi and Moore, have had exceptional careers in the WNBA.
Moore won four championships in eight seasons with the Minnesota Lynx, while Taurasi has won three in 20 seasons with the Mercury. Taurasi is also the league’s all-time leading scorer (10,646).
Considering the program’s impressive track record, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Bueckers becomes one of the league’s best players when she turns pro.
