UFC 309 has experienced setbacks with two fighters having to withdraw from their scheduled bouts.
UFC 309 is scheduled to take place next Saturday, November 16 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. In the main event, Jon Jones, the heavyweight champion, will defend his title against Stipe Miocic.
However, according to MMAJunkie, light heavyweight Azamat Murzakanov, ranked 11th, is out of his UFC 309 fight against sixth-ranked Nikita Krylov. It remains uncertain if Krylov will still compete on the card.
Murzakanov (14-0) recently secured a knockout victory over Alonzo Menifield, extending his UFC record to 4-0. He has also triumphed over Dustin Jacoby, Devin Clark, and Tafon Nchukwi. Meanwhile, Krylov (30-9) hasn’t fought since March 2023 when he defeated Ryan Spann by submission. Krylov boasts an 11-7 UFC record, with notable wins over Volkan Oezdemir, Alexander Gustafsson, Johnny Walker, and Ovince Saint Preux, among others.
Additionally, MMAFighting has reported that Lucas Almeida is no longer able to compete in his UFC 309 fight against David Onama. The plan is for Onama to remain on the card and face a replacement opponent.
Almeida (15-3) is coming off a decision victory over Timmy Cuamba, breaking a two-fight losing streak. The Brazilian fighter holds a 2-2 UFC record, winning his debut against Michael Trizano by knockout but suffering consecutive losses to Pat Sabatini and Andre Fili by stoppage.
David Onama (12-2) secured a decision win over Jonathan Pearce in April and holds a 4-2 UFC record, currently enjoying a two-fight winning streak. His defeats came at the hands of Mason Jones and Nate Landwehr, with victories over Gabriel Benitez, Garrett Armfield, and Gabriel Santos.
