Eryk Anders utilized one of Chris Weidman’s signature moves to secure a victory at UFC 310 on Saturday.
After being knocked down in the first round, Anders made a strong comeback in the second round by escaping a guillotine choke and unleashing a series of powerful ground and pound strikes on Weidman. Weidman found himself in survival mode, unable to defend against the relentless barrage of punches.
Eventually, the referee had seen enough after Weidman’s head bounced off the canvas from a couple of shots, ending the fight at 4:51 into the second round.
“I told you, I’m constantly evolving, learning, still picking, traveling, learning things from other people,” Anders commented on his winning strategy. “I don’t turn down fights. I aim to entertain.”
At the start of the fight, Anders landed a slick head kick on Weidman while he was holding onto a leg. However, the momentum shifted when Anders was caught by a counter left hook that knocked him down.
Weidman tried to finish the fight, but Anders managed to avoid taking too much damage while on the ground.
The tide turned in the second round when Anders escaped the submission attempt and continued to pummel Weidman with punches on the ground. With Weidman unable to defend himself, the referee had to intervene and stop the fight before the end of the round.
Anders, knowing he has only a few fights left in his career, made the most of the opportunity and added a victory over a former champion to his record with the win at UFC 310. Weidman, on the other hand, now holds a 1-2 record since returning from a serious injury, leaving his future in question.
