LAS VEGAS – Back in 2017, Dana White created buzz by sporting a Zuffa Boxing t-shirt and hinting at his possible foray into the boxing world. However, as time went on, the hype died down and the shirt may have been forgotten at the bottom of a drawer.
Over the years, White has often expressed his frustrations with boxing and how he believes the sport is managed.
Now, in 2024, White seems to be resurrecting the idea, albeit with a few wrinkles in the shirt.
Having taken a keen interest in up-and-coming Irish boxer Callum Walsh, White made a definitive statement during a pre-fight Q&A in Dublin, declaring, “I’m in.”
Reflecting on his past thoughts of getting involved in 2017, White shared, “Every time I consider it, I question my sanity, but now seems like the right time. Timing is everything. Is now the time? We’re about to find out.”
While White didn’t reveal many specifics about his plans, he hinted at his vision for the future of boxing and his approach to making it a success.
Working closely with promoter Tom Loeffler for Walsh’s fights, White expressed openness to collaborating with other promoters, as long as they meet his standards.
When asked about the possibility of UFC fighters crossing over to boxing, White made it clear that he disapproves of the idea.
Bringing his successful UFC tactics to the boxing world, White emphasized the need for faster-paced fights and less downtime between bouts.
One significant difference between MMA and boxing is the promotional landscape, with boxing talent scattered among various promoters. White hinted at potentially consolidating talent under a single banner, similar to the UFC model.
White teased that more details about his venture into boxing, including the athletes he’ll work with, will be revealed in 2025.
