There are talks of a major overhaul to the UFC rankings system, eleven years after its implementation.
Recently, UFC CEO Dana White expressed dissatisfaction with Khalil Rountree’s ranking at No. 8 in the UFC light heavyweight division.
Despite Rountree’s performance against champion Alex Pereira, where he was eventually knocked out in the third round, he did not move up in the rankings.
In addition to Rountree’s situation, White also pointed out Renato Moicano’s lack of movement in the rankings following a dominant victory over Benoit Saint Denis in September.
White expressed frustration with the current rankings process after Dana White’s Contender Series 76, stating, “I just can’t handle incompetence. It’s driving me crazy. I can’t let people I don’t trust with the rankings anymore.”
The rankings, which have been determined by a UFC-selected group of outlets since 2013, have faced criticism from White and others, with concerns about bias and accuracy.
While White did not provide specifics on the new rankings system, he mentioned plans to meet with a group proposing a solution to the current issues.
He emphasized that the media will no longer control the UFC rankings, and suggested that an external third party or AI could be responsible for ranking fighters in the future.
