UKAD has announced that it will not be appealing the decision made by the National Anti-Doping Panel to clear Conor Benn of any doping charges.
The NADP stated that they were not convinced by UKAD’s evidence that Benn had committed a doping offense, despite him failing two voluntary drug tests for clomifene in 2022.
On November 6, Benn shared on social media that the NADP had lifted his provisional suspension and dismissed the charge against him. UKAD had a 21-day window to appeal this decision, which expired yesterday. Today, UKAD confirmed that they will not be appealing the NADP’s ruling.
In their online statement, UKAD mentioned, “As per anti-doping procedures and in line with UK Anti-Doping rules, WADA retains the right to appeal with an extended deadline to file any such appeal.”
If WADA decides not to appeal, Benn will be able to resume his boxing career. However, to fight in the UK for the first time since April 2022, he will need to regain his British Boxing Licence. The British Boxing Board of Control stated today, “We are aware of UK Anti-Doping’s announcement regarding the NADP’s decision on Conor Benn. We confirm that we will not be appealing the NADP’s decision.”
