Team USA’s group, led by UConn alums Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, continues to impress. They are also successfully merging business with basketball through their Unrivaled league. As the league’s start date nears, more information is being released daily. However, there is some disappointing news for fans.
The Unrivaled league will launch in January 2025 while the WNBA is in the offseason. This 6-team league will feature 30 WNBA stars playing in a 3×3 format. Despite this exciting news, Stewart and Collier will not be on the same team. Collier confirmed this during a fan Q&A session on her X account.
She mentioned, “There’s a selection committee that splits the teams by position & skill. Unfortunately Sunday may be the last time me and Stewie play together until National team starts back up again 🥲” The selection process and team dynamics will surely impact fan interest when the league officially kicks off.

Various WNBA players have joined the Unrivaled League for different reasons. The league offers a chance to play in the 3×3 format, avoid playing overseas in the offseason, and earn a higher salary domestically. The league will consist of six teams of five players each.
Stewart and Collier have recruited ten players to their team, including Chelsea Gray, Arike Ogunbowale, Jewell Loyd, and others. The anticipation for Paige Bueckers’ involvement is high, although her name is not yet listed on the website due to her ongoing NCAA commitments.
For now, Stewart and Collier will only play together for Team USA, aiming for their tenth Olympic gold. It will be interesting to see how traditional 5×5 players adapt to the 3×3 format.
