Securing her fourth consecutive Grand Slam final on hard courts, second seed Aryna Sabalenka battled past first-time major finalist Jessica Pegula 7-5 7-5 to capture the 2024 US Open title, a year after coming in second to Coco Gauff at Flushing Meadows.
Initially falling behind 2-1 with a break of serve, sixth-seeded Pegula was quickly countered by Sabalenka, who won four consecutive games to take a 5-2 lead. Despite Pegula’s strong comeback with three straight games, Sabalenka prevailed in a hard-fought 11th game to secure the first set.
The second set saw Sabalenka take a 3-0 lead, only for Pegula to respond with five consecutive games to lead 5-3. Sabalenka managed to claw back, breaking Pegula’s serve to level at 5-5 before ultimately sealing the victory with a powerful forehand on the second championship point.
Sabalenka’s winning attire at the 2024 US Open included the Nike New York Slam Dress, Nike Zoom NXT tennis shoes, and the Wilson Blade 98 18×20 v9 tennis racquet.
En route to her third major title and first in New York, Sabalenka triumphed over Priscilla Hon, Lucia Bronzetti, Ekaterina Alexandrova, Elise Mertens, Zheng Qinwen, Emma Navarro, and Pegula in the final.
