Veteran Fever teammate makes feelings about Caitlin Clark with candid message
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Indiana Fever veteran Kelsey Mitchell shared a touching message about Caitlin Clark and the first season they spent together. The former No. 2 overall pick in the WNBA draft formed a terrific backcourt with the former Iowa Hawkeyes star, even getting an All-Star call alongside the rookie and Aliyah Boston.

In a post shared on The Player’s Tribune back in November, Mitchell opened up on how she felt having Clark as a teammate. She admitted that it was crazy to have all the new attention upon them.

“We obviously had a new spotlight on us, with Caitlin being drafted, who I’m proud to call a teammate. That was exciting in its own way, with the fans it brought to the arena, and the opportunity it gave our squad.”

Kelsey Mitchell lauded the rest of her teammates, saying she was happy to share the court with them, but having extra special words for Caitlin Clark and the impact she made on the team and the league.

“We really held each other down. So our 11, who were professional, competitive, and selfless through it all, I wouldn’t trade them for the world. I wouldn’t have asked to do this with anybody else. And I have so much respect for Caitlin, especially, and how she handled it as a youngin’. I hope we did a good job of being there for you, too, C ❤️. I gave her her flowers early in the game because the eyes she brought shined a light on all of us, too.”

Kelsey Mitchell played 40 games this season, averaging 19.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 46.8% from the field, 40.2% from deep and 83.2% from the free-throw line. She helped Clark and Boston take the Fever to the playoff with a 20-20 record.

Kelsey Mitchell touched on difficult loss before Indiana Fever’s 2024 season

As part of this piece, Kelsey Mitchell revealed how she felt about her father’s death months before the start of the season. Her dad died at 56 and made a big impact on Mitchell’s, who reflected on this difficult moment after losing one of her biggest supporters.

Mitchell said that she was left distraught on some game nights, but decided to keep those feelings for her. She thanked her Indiana Fever teammates for supporting her during the hard times, which seemingly created a deeper bond between them.
