Dubois became the IBF heavyweight champion without winning it inside the ring. Back in June he beat Filip Hrgovic to become the IBF interim champion, which put him in a mandatory position to challenge their champion, Oleksandr Usyk. A little over a month after Usyk beat Tyson Fury to become the first undisputed world heavyweight champion in almost a quarter of a century, Usyk vacated the IBF belt and as a result, Dubois was promoted and became the new IBF champion. For Daniel Dubois, the fight against AJ provided him the chance to win his first fight while competing for a major world championship. On the flipside, this fight provided Joshua with the opportunity to become just the fourth boxer in history to become a three-time heavyweight champion.
Joshua was the favorite going into this one, but the fight wound up being a complete and total nightmare for the former two-time unified heavyweight champion. In a passing of the torch type of event, Dubois thoroughly dominated Joshua from start to finish, dropping him four times before scoring the big time knockout in round 5.
This edition of Rummy’s Corner will provide a quick recap and review of the championship fight between Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua, while also providing opinions on where Dubois should go from here, and whether or not it is in Joshua’s best interest to activate his rematch clause with Dubois. Please watch and enjoy the video for one man’s opinion. This is Rummy’s Corner (produced and narrated by Geoffrey Ciani).
