Chicago Sky star Angel Reese enjoyed a productive rookie season in 2024. The 22-year-old spent most of her time playing in the post, however. Will that change in 2025?
A video posted by Karli Bell on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday at Sky training camp displayed Reese shooting the three-ball and working on her perimeter game. This obviously isn’t the first video of Reese working on the perimeter, but she seemed to show more confidence in her shot as compared to last season.
“Angel Reese working on the perimeter game after practice. That three ball looking nice,” Bell wrote in the caption for the video.
In 2024, Reese averaged 13.6 points per game while shooting 39.1 percent from the field and under 19 percent from beyond the arc. She only attempted 0.5 three-point shots per outing, though. On Sunday, there seemed to be an emphasis on Reese improving as a perimeter player.
Multiple videos of Reese shooting three-point attempts were shared on social media. Another video, which was shared by LANI on X, displayed Reese driving to the basket and finishing with her right hand. The video also shows Reese finding a cutter for a lay-up.
“POINT FORWARD ANGEL REESE COMING TO A CITY NEAR YOU,” the video’s caption reads.
Is Angel Reese becoming a point forward?
Is Angel Reese set for role change in 2025?
In all reality, it is too early to overreact to a few videos from the first day of training camp. It is clear that Reese could have a more versatile role in 2025, though.
Angel Reese is still going to play the forward position. She’s going to continue to spend most of her time on the floor in the post. If Reese can develop the ability to stretch the floor and make more of an impact near the three-point line, though, she will take an overall big step forward in her game.
It needs to be remembered that the Sky have a new head coach in Tyler Marsh. He may want to change Reese’s role on the team. Marsh is going to approach the game in a different manner than Sky 2024 head coach Teresa Weatherspoon. Could that benefit Reese? It remains to be seen, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Reese enter 2025 with a new approach on the floor.
The Sky hope to compete in 2025. If Angel Reese plays up to her full potential, Chicago should be able to reach the postseason.
