Williams team principal James Vowles was full of praise for rookie Franco Colapinto after he recovered from a practice crash to secure his first top-10 qualifying position.
Colapinto had a difficult start to the weekend after hitting the barriers in FP1, but he managed to qualify ninth despite his lack of experience at the Baku circuit.
Vowles commended Colapinto for his performance, stating that he had made the team proud and proved that he deserved his place in the team.
Unfortunately, Colapinto’s teammate, Alex Albon, missed out on a chance to improve his position in Q3 due to a team error that led to an unsafe release.
Despite this setback, Vowles remained optimistic about the team’s chances in the race, with both drivers starting in a strong position to score points.
It was a challenging qualifying session for Williams, but Vowles was confident that the team could achieve a positive result on race day.
