While we don’t have a traditional Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector Roadmap, we do have news and speculation on what is to come in the future.
2024 has been a solid year for Battlesector. With new new DLC to come in December, adding the Astra Militarum DLC (Imperial Guard in old money). We also got news in April 2024 that the development of the game going forward is secure after Slitherine took over the production of the game.
So, let’s look ahead to what we know is coming and what we can speculate on for the future of Warhammer 40k Battlesector.
Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector Roadmap – What is Confirmed
Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector – Astra Militarum
That’s right, the Astra Militarum are here. The horde army of the Imperium is ready to throw itself at whatever threat may come in front of it. The DLC will release on December 10th 2024, and will feature the Astra Militarum as a fully playable faction in the game. We also have a confirmed list of the units that will be coming:
Cadian Castellan
Commissar
Primaris Psyker
Cadian Shock Troops
Heavy Weapons Squad
Ogryns
Kasrkin
Tank Commander (in Leman Russ)
Rogal Dorn Battle Tank
Leman Russ Demolisher
Leman Russ Vanquisher
Leman Russ Punisher
Armoured Sentinel
Basilisk
Chimera
Valkyrie
The dev team will be at EGX in London in late October, so we suspect we’ll get more information there, with the DLC confirmed to be making an appearance.
Battlesector Primaris Psyker
We got our first look at a new model coming with the Astra Militarum update thanks to a recent developer blog. In it, we got to see the full process of making a 3D model that will be added to the game. For some reason, I thought they’d just get a really nicely painted model and scan it in… maybe they could do that in the future, maybe that’s easier, and I’ve just saved the dev team a bunch of time.
Regardless, it’s a really cool process to get to see, and it makes us excited about the DLC.

New Developer, new Content?
Speaking earlier in 2024, we had a few quotes from the new team and the former team about the game and what we might get:
Marco Minoli, Director of Publishing at Slitherine: “Looking to the future, Battlesector will remain a key title within Slitherine’s portfolio, and we’re excited to expand upon the game in new and exciting ways that players have yet to experience”
This is probably the most interesting quote of the lot. New and exciting means we are not talking about normal faction DLC here but more. Some obvious things are missing from Battlesectore such as Coop, but we suspect campaign DLC could be something a new team looks to introduce. The main issue will be how you deliver it, the most likely solution might be to make a new DLC themed around a story campaign that features two new factions/armies.
The smart money would be to do something that is happening in the tabletop game currently or introduce factions that have had major updates. Maybe introduce factions like the Leagues of Votann or popular Space Marine chapters like the Dark Angels. The Aeldari are also a notable faction missing from the game, maybe with a potential model refresh from Games Workshop maybe in the works, we could see them come to Battlesector as well.
Free to Play?
It’s a question that is always going to come up as a game gets a lot of DLC. Right now, the full DLC pack for Battlesectore is over $100 which makes the complete set over $150 at full price. The game needs one of two things; a lowered standard price for the base game to under $30 or a move to F2P. One issue with reducing the game to a lower fee, is it makes all DLC seem expensive, so you might need to tweak that. Being careful not to then upset people that paid a higher price. Another issue with going F2P is people who paid full price. One solution to that is to give everyone who paid full price a “free DLC” token for a future DLC, alternatively, some sort of special DLC that celebrates those people. Though historically those sort of cosmetic “thank you” packs are not welcomed
Battlesector Roadmap Beyond 2024
Ultimately, the Astra Militarum is all we will get in 2024, but come 2025 the new dev team will have had a full year to implement their ideas. If the game picks up with new DLC they might look to invest more heavily in the project.
Battlesector still feels like the closest game we have to the tabletop Warhammer experience, and I think with a bit more promotion we could see the game thrive once more.
