Lyndsey Whilby’s basketball career was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Having played for Texas Tech (2017-18) and Purdue (2018-20), she decided to take a break from basketball in 2020 for safety reasons and returned to her family in Georgia. Two years later, she resumed playing for Kennesaw State (2022-23).
Currently in Romania, Swish Appeal interviewed Whilby about her basketball journey, including her mom’s influence as a former Division-1 player, her professional career, and her future plans. Some highlights from the conversation include:
On the best basketball advice from her mom, a former Division-1 player at Iona College:
Her mom always emphasized the importance of focusing on the “next play.” Whether the previous play was good or bad, it’s crucial to have a short-term memory and move on to the next opportunity. This advice has stuck with Whilby throughout her career.
On her decision to pause her college basketball career due to the pandemic:
Whilby chose to opt-out of her college basketball season in 2020 to prioritize safety for herself and her family. During this time off, she refocused and prepared for her return to the court, ultimately deciding to continue her basketball journey at Kennesaw State in Georgia.
