The New York Giants kicked off their training camp on Tuesday, with everyone present and eager to get to work – assuming they are healthy, of course.
General manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll held their first media session of the 2024 NFL season on Wednesday morning.
Naturally, one of the topics discussed was the status of quarterback Daniel Jones, who is recovering from an ACL tear he suffered last season, casting doubt on his future with the Giants.
Schoen mentioned that Jones will be participating in first-team snaps at quarterback, as long as he feels up to it.

During the team’s offseason program, Jones displayed good mobility and participated in 7-on-7 drills. Now, he will be taking part in 11-on-11s and full practices.
Schoen also mentioned that he kept Jones informed about any potential quarterback moves the team was considering. Despite exploring trades to move up in the draft for a top quarterback, the Giants ultimately selected wide receiver Malik Nabers with the sixth pick.
Despite facing criticism this offseason, Jones has remained focused and handled it well, according to Schoen.
“Of all the guys on the team, he does the best job tuning out the noise,” Schoen said. “He’s wired for the position. He’s a great teammate, he’s a leader, and I’m excited about how things can go this year if he can stay healthy.”
Staying healthy is crucial for Jones, as he has only managed to avoid injury in the year he led the Giants to the postseason in 2022.
Schoen made it clear that Jones needs to show improvement in the upcoming season.
“We need better in 2024,” he stated.
