The confidence of Lewis Hamilton remains intact. Even after his retirement in Brazil, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion continues to believe he can score points in the final three rounds of the season.
The British driver completed a disappointing qualifying session at Interlagos, securing only 13th place on the grid, while his teammate started from the third spot. His race start did not reward him either, as he was involved in a couple of contacts that eventually forced him to retire.
Not even Charles Leclerc could feel satisfied with his weekend, as Ferrari suffered a double retirement in Brazil. The Monegasque was taken out after a collision between Oscar Piastri and Kimi Antonelli, which unfortunately ended up involving him as well.
The champion’s unshakeable confidence
Lewis Hamilton would have every reason to feel disheartened this season. Ferrari has delivered an inconsistent car that has certainly not made his job easy. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion has only stepped on the podium in two Sprint races, results that count for very little in the overall championship. Yet, in the post-race interviews, he stated: “We will be back fighting in the next races.”
He added: “There are still points up for grabs, so that is our mentality. I don’t expect anything, but we will show up and give absolutely everything.” He later explained: “I know that everyone behind the scenes is working extremely hard to make sure we start next year on the right foot. I have no idea where we will be, but I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.”
Ferrari currently sits in fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship, and scoring points in the final races would be the only way to fight for a potential third place. There is not much more the Maranello team can do at this stage, but the final rounds should still offer excitement and plenty of surprises, especially when looking at the fierce battle at the top of the Drivers’ Championship.
