Antonio Giovinazzi, driving the #51 Ferrari 499P, secured pole position at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas for round six of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship, the Lone Star Le Mans, after an exciting Hyperpole session.
Giovinazzi set a fast lap time of 1:50.390s, giving the #51 Ferrari AF Corse its first top spot of the season, marking Ferrari’s second pole position of the year.
Robert Kubica, in the #83 AF Corse Ferrari 499P, finished in second place, with the yellow 499P only 0.277s behind Giovinazzi’s time.
Alex Lynn, driving the #2 Cadillac Racing Hypercar, took third place with a late quick lap, ahead of Charles Milesi in the #35 Alpine.
Antonio Fuoco, in the #50 Ferrari AF Corse 499P, qualified in fifth position, ensuring three Ferraris in the top five.
Mick Schumacher, in the #36 Alpine A424, missed out on Hyperpole due to a cockpit issue caused by an insect entering during qualifying.
The championship-leading #6 Porsche Penske 963 Hypercar will start 14th after Kevin Estre struggled in qualifying.
Sébastien Buemi and the #8 Toyota crew were disappointed to miss out on the Hyperpole session and will start 12th.
In the LMGT3 class, Ian James in the #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage claimed pole position with a lap time of 2:05.587s.
Sarah Bovy in the Iron Dames Lamborghini Huracán will start alongside James on the front row.
The championship-leading #92 Manthey PureRxcing Porsche 911 RSR GT3, driven by Aliaksandr Malykhin, qualified fourth.
Ben Keating, a two-time FIA WEC class champion, made a comeback driving the Proton Competition’s Ford Mustang GT3 and qualified ninth.
