The main point: With the playoffs just around the corner, attention is now turning to the teams that didn’t make the cut. Today, known as “Black Monday,” is when eliminated teams often part ways with their head coaches (HC).
This year, two legendary HCs are facing uncertain futures:
New England Patriots HC Bill Belichick, the winningest active HC, is rumored to be leaving after an incredible 24 seasons with the team. Despite making nine Super Bowl appearances and winning six of them (both records), Belichick had a rough season with a 4-13 record, his worst performance as an HC.
Washington Commanders HC Ron Rivera, a two-time NFL Coach of the Year, hasn’t been able to replicate his past success since taking over in 2020. While he successfully navigated a culture change in his first year, Rivera has struggled with managing quarterbacks in recent seasons. It seems like a coaching change is on the horizon.
