The 2025 season is a major inflection point for the league, as over 100 players are set to become free agents, including 21 of the 24 players named to this year’s All-Star Game. As a lockout looms, contenders could go all-in for 2025 given the uncertainty that lies beyond.
Days ahead of the deadline, action got going as the Minnesota Lynx made a move to increase their chances of avenging last year’s Finals loss. Now, other contenders could follow suit.

Can WNBA teams trade after the deadline?
As in other professional leagues, WNBA teams cannot negotiate deals past the 3 p.m. deadline. News of trades sometimes comes in after the deadline has passed, but those deals were agreed upon before the buzzer.
To be approved by the league office, deals must be agreed upon by 3 p.m.

Minnesota Lynx acquire DiJonai Carrington from Dallas Wings
Minnesota, owners of the league’s best record and defensive rating, adds a 2024 All-Defensive First Team selection in DiJonai Carrington.
The Lynx acquired Carrington in exchange for Diamond Miller, Karlie Samuelson, and a 2027 second-round pick. In a corresponding move, the Wings released center Teaira McCowan to stay under the league’s roster limit.
