Where were the New York Liberty stars? The Lynx kept them quiet and forced a WNBA Finals Game 5

MINNEAPOLIS — The WNBA Finals have seen incredibly close games over four matchups. Nail-biting finishes like missed free throws leading to overtime and blown layups turning into 3-pointers have characterized the series. The games, often decided by just one possession, have shown how evenly matched the teams are.

New York’s big three stepped up in Game 4, but despite their heroic efforts, they fell short, resulting in an 82-80 victory for Minnesota. The series now heads back to Brooklyn for a decisive Game 5 on Sunday.

From the start of Game 4, Breanna Stewart struggled, missing her first eight shots. Her decision-making on the court seemed rushed, as she forced shots instead of looking for open teammates. This led to her worst shooting performance of the series, going 5-of-21.

Having struggled, the Liberty needed Sabrina Ionescu to step up. However, Minnesota’s defense, led by Kayla McBride, made it difficult for Ionescu to get good looks. The Lynx were determined to make everything hard for the Liberty.

Minnesota’s defensive anchor, Alanna Smith, played a crucial role in Game 4, providing support in the paint and on the perimeter. The Lynx’s collective effort on defense was key to their success.

Both teams have battled hard throughout the series, relying on their depth and teamwork. The Liberty’s star power will be tested in Game 5, where Stewart and Ionescu will have another opportunity to shine.
