Clark would be drafted #1 overall by the Indiana Fever. Fellow Hawkeye Kate Martin also heard her name called that night. The Des Moines Register reports that this year, the Dallas Wings hold the #1 overall pick. It is widely believed that they will select Paige Bueckers, who just won a National Championship with the UConn Huskies. So which Iowa players might be selected?
When is the 2025 WNBA Draft?
This year’s WNBA Draft will be held Monday, April 14th, at the Shed in Manhattan’s Hudson Yard neighborhood of New York City according to the Register.
The draft will begin at 6:30 p.m. Iowa time and include three rounds with a total of 38 draft picks.
Who Will Be the First Iowa Player Drafted This Year?
The Register reports that most believe that Iowa guard Lucy Olsen will be the next Hawkeye drafted into the WNBA.
Olsen is currently ranked the 18th best player available according to ESPN, while other sources have the Iowa guard an early to mid-second-round pick.
The Register reports that the Indiana Fever currently has the 20th pick in this year’s draft, Could the Fever select Olsen and pair her with Caitlin Clark? We’ll find out tonight!
Will Any Other Iowa Hawkeyes be Drafted Tonight?
Another former Hawkeye could hear her name called tonight. The Register reports that Sydney Affolter is ranked the 49th best prospect by ESPN.
Affolter averaged nearly a double-double in her first year as a full-time starter at Iowa. She took on a much larger role this past season after the departures of Kate Martin and Gabbie Marshall.
What About Players from Iowa State or Drake?
Cyclone point guard Emily Ryan could hear her name late tonight. The Register reports that former Drake star Katie Dinnebier decided to opt out of the draft and continue pharmacy school.
