The White Sox have officially signed right-hander Jonathan Heasley to a minor league deal, including an invite to major league spring training. Heasley, who is represented by Icon Sports Management, will join the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
At 28 years old, Heasley has some experience at the major league level, having appeared in games over the past four seasons. In a total of 139 innings pitched, he has allowed an average of 5.89 earned runs per nine innings. His strikeout rate sits at 14.4%, slightly below the league average, while his walk rate is at 8.9%, in line with the norm.
Most of Heasley’s experience came with the Royals from 2021 to 2023, before being acquired by the Orioles last winter. Despite a limited number of appearances with the Orioles in 2024, the White Sox saw potential in his minor league performance. In 2021 alone, he posted a 3.33 ERA over 105 1/3 innings in Double-A, with a 27.7% strikeout rate and a 7.9% walk rate.
Heasley has experience as both a starter and reliever, providing flexibility to the White Sox in their pitching rotation. With a focus on improving their bullpen, which ranked 28th in the league with a 4.73 ERA last season, the White Sox are looking to bolster their pitching staff for the upcoming year.
While the team has a promising group of young pitchers, adding experienced arms like Heasley is a key objective for the offseason. Alongside recent signings and acquisitions, Heasley brings depth to the team as a non-roster player. If he earns a spot on the roster, he will be a valuable addition with his versatile pitching style and limited time in the major leagues.
