Alysha Clark’s WNBA success stems from her parents’ rich history in both music and sports. The dual nightclub singing career of Jan, along with Duane’s musical gifts and athletic interests, instilled in Alysha various skills. The constant support of her parents empowered Alysha to move from Denver and win three WNBA championship titles.
Who Are Alysha Clark’s Parents
Jan Clark pursued a career as a nightclub singer, specializing in R&B standards and Barbara Streisand covers at venues across Southern California. After Alysha’s birth on July 7, 1987, in Denver, Jan stepped back from touring to focus on family life, while still nurturing a home filled with music and creativity.
“Music was in the walls of our house,” Alysha once said, recalling how her mother’s songs provided comfort during early morning shoots and late-night games.
Duane Clark was an accomplished R&B and disco singer who opened shows for Al Wilson and B.B. King during the genre’s heyday. In his youth, he also played amateur football, instilling in Alysha a competitive edge and appreciation for discipline.
The couple met while touring; their shared love of performance forged a partnership that blended rhythm and resilience long before Alysha laced up her sneakers.
Duane’s role extended far beyond lyrics and lobs. He was Alysha’s “sixth man,” a constant presence at games and practices. After his passing in September 2022, Alysha dedicated her 2023 championship run to him, poignantly declaring, “We did it, Pops. … Thank you for being my sixth man.”
In a heartfelt interview, the Storm star shared, “I wanted something to be a joyful reminder. … My necklace and tattoo help me feel like my dad is always with me.”
The Clark household also celebrated their cultural heritage. With maternal grandparents who were Jewish Hebrew speakers, Alysha later acquired Israeli citizenship and explored her roots while playing overseas.
Jan and Duane’s legacy is inseparable from Alysha’s story. Through melodies and matchups, they instilled in her a blend of artistry and athletic grit. Their love, sacrifices, and shared passions continue to echo in every defensive stop and championship celebration, illustrating how family foundations can propel champions.
