The draw for the Euro 2025 qualifiers play-offs has been made and all 28 teams have discovered their upcoming opponents. The countries will be battling to secure one of the last seven spots at next summer’s Finals in Switzerland.
For the first time, the Nations League and qualifiers themselves have been combined into one. For the play-offs, there are two pathways for the first round — League C vs League A in path one, and just League B in path two. In the second round, the two pathways crossover, with the winners from path one taking on the winners of path two.
Defending champions England are now safely through, so attention turns to the other home nations. All of whom will have to come through the play-offs. Scotland and Wales won their qualifying groups in League B, which also earned them promotion to League A of the Nations League, alongside their play-off place.
The Scots will take on Hungary in their first round match, the winner of which will face either Montenegro or Finland. Wales, who are bidding to reach a first major Finals, have been drawn against Slovakia. The winners will take on either Georgia or the Republic of Ireland, who impressed in England’s group despite finishing bottom.
Eileen Gleeson’s Ireland side will be hoping to build on impressive performances in the group stage and at the World Cup last summer.
Meanwhile, Northern Ireland will be hoping to reach a second Euros on the bounce. While Tanya Oxtoby’s side finished second to Portugal in the group, their performance has seen them rewarded with a tie against Croatia. Should they come through that, they will face either Albania or a Norway side who were only denied automatic qualification by a late Vivianne Miedema equaliser in Bergen on Tuesday night.
All first round games will be played on October 23rd and 30th, with the League A teams and seeded League B sides away in the first leg.
