Angel Reese has had an exceptional rookie season in the WNBA so far, earning accolades such as Rookie of the Month for June and Player of the Week in Week 7. She is making a strong case for Rookie of the Year if the season were to end today.
Initially, Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever was seen as the clear favorite for the award due to her outstanding performance in the first half of the season. However, Angel Reese’s remarkable play has made it a competitive race for the top rookie honor.
In July, Reese has continued to impress, averaging high numbers in points, rebounds, assists, and steals per game. She has broken records with the most consecutive double-doubles and is on track to set new benchmarks for total rebounds and offensive rebounds in a season.
In contrast, while Clark has made history with her accomplishments, Reese’s consistency and efficiency on the court set her apart. Reese has also demonstrated better ball control, with significantly fewer turnovers compared to Clark.
Statistically, Reese has had a more positive impact on her team’s performance, as indicated by the +/- ratings and offensive efficiency ratings. The numbers support Reese as the player who elevates her team’s play when she is on the court.
Both players have had exceptional seasons, but if the current trends continue, Reese is poised to be named the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year by the end of the season.
