Wildcats Drop a Match to No. 19 Oklahoma – UK Athletics

LEXINGTON, KY- The Kentucky Women’s Tennis team (8-6, 0-5 SEC) hosted the second home conference match of the season against No. 19 Oklahoma (12-4, 3-2 SEC), falling 0-4. The Wildcats will head back on the road for their next matches against No. 23 Florida (8-3, 2-2 SEC) on Thursday at 5 p.m. ET in Gainesville, Fla. and No. 5 Auburn (21-1, 4-0 SEC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. E.T. in Auburn, Ala.

In doubles play, Oklahoma secured the doubles points with wins on court 3, pair Julia Garcia and Salakthip Ounmuang defeating the Wildcat duo of Marina Fuduric and Ellie Myers, and on court two, No. 37 pair Edda Mamedova and Evialina Laskevich defeating Reese Sager and Asuncion Jadue. The match on court one, Kentucky’s number one pair of Julia Zhu and Zoe Hammond vs No. 1 Rosin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum was left unfinished.

In singles play, Oklahoma grabs the next three singles wins in straight sets. First to win was Oklahoma’s Chloe Noel defeating Asuncion Jadue on court four. Next was Oklahoma’s No. 71 Evialina Laskevich who defeated No. 112 Julia Zhu in a match of long rallies on court one. Almost simultaneously, Oklahoma’s Laura Brunkel defeated Ellie Myers on court six to secure the match win for the Sooners. The remaining matches were agreed to be left unfinished, closing out the conference matches series at home.

Kentucky Women’s Tennis (8-6, 0-5 SEC) will now prepare for another weekend on the road continuing SEC play with matches against No. 23 Florida on Thursday and No. 5 Auburn on Saturday.

Asuncion Jadue (UK) 6-1, 6-35.    Elena Molla (UK) vs. Salakthip Ounmang (OKL) UF6.    Laura Brunkel (OKL) def. Ellie Myers (UK) 6-3, 6-4Order of finish: 4, 1, 6
